Expense Tracker ("the App") is a personal finance application built by an independent developer. This page explains what data the App accesses, how it is used, and how it is protected.
01 Permissions We Request
READ_SMS / RECEIVE_SMS — To read bank transaction SMS alerts and automatically extract transaction amounts, payees, and categories for your expense diary.
POST_NOTIFICATIONS — To send you reminders to review pending SMS transactions and upcoming bills.
USE_BIOMETRIC / USE_FINGERPRINT — To let you lock the App with your device fingerprint or face unlock, if enabled in Settings. Biometric data never leaves your device.
02 How We Use Your Data
Transaction data, budgets, and categories are stored in a local SQLite database on your device.
SMS messages are processed entirely on your device. Raw SMS text is never sent to our servers.
When you sign in with Google, your name, email address, and a device identifier are synced to our secure servers to maintain your account and enable cross-device features.
Transaction summaries (amounts, categories, dates, payee names) are also synced to our servers.
The App does not sell any of your personal or financial data to third parties.
03 Data Storage
Transaction data, budgets, categories, and settings are stored locally on your device. Your Google account profile and transaction summaries are also stored on our secure servers. If you enable Google Drive Backup, a copy of your data is stored in your personal Google Drive.
04 Server Communication
The App connects to our backend to:
Create or update your account profile (name, email, device ID, transaction summaries)
Fetch the latest transaction category rules
Process Google Sign-In for account authentication
All communication uses a secure HTTPS connection
05 Data Retention & Deletion
Local data is deleted when you uninstall the App. Server-side account data can be deleted at any time from Settings → Delete Account. Deletion requests are processed within 30 days.
06 Children
This App is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children.
07 Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy. Changes will be reflected in the "Last updated" date above. Continued use of the App constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
